Virginia Braslan Calhoun

Chamber Music Benefit Concert

For the Crisis Connection

Featuring the Rosalyra String Quartet

Crisis Connection’s confidential support and counseling line is available free for Twin Cities callers in crisis. Many people in our community are alone, feeling lost, struggling with depression or other serious mental illness. Others just need someone to talk to in the middle of the night to sort out a problem or ease their pain. These are the people Crisis Connection helps, 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. We listen, offer encouragement, and assist in whatever way we can. And, as the provider of the Suicide Hotline in Minnesota, we’re given the opportunity to save lives every day.

We plan The Virginia Braslan Calhoun Concert each year in an effort to give something back to generous people like you, whose donations allow us to change and save the lives of over 65,000 Minnesotans a year.

Who is Virginia Braslan Calhoun?

Virginia Braslan Calhoun was the great grandmother of Crisis Connection’s acting board president. A brave woman who suffered alone with mental illness, her tragic story—and the knowledge we have now about what could have been done to help her—reminds us that the thousands of people we help are close by.

Who is Dee Nord?

Dee Nord is a 27-year volunteer telephone counselor with Crisis Connection and one of its predecessor organizations, Contact Twin Cities. During that time she has helped thousands of individuals in crisis, usually at around midnight, give or take a couple of hours.

At this year’s Chamber Music Event, Crisis Connection will present its first-ever Community Call Center Volunteer of the Year Award, to Dee Nord. In future years, the award will be named for its first recipient.
